New ideas need old buildings, as celebrated urban planner Jane Jacobs once said. So… an inn that has been welcoming guests for more than 300 years is bound to generate a lot of brainstorming excitement, right?

While New England has its fair share of history, few spots are better for helping a team shake off more than a year of confinement than the Red Lion Inn in Cohasset, Massachuetts. Built in 1704, this hidden gem sits among many historic properties on Boston’s South Shore, tucked into a quiet coastal community with access to everything from oyster tours to boardwalks. And for 2021, the property is waiving all site rental fees for weekday corporate events.

“It’s an amazing package,” says Tony Dochev, the new General Manager of the property. He notes that rental fees for every event venue space, The Barn, The Hillside House, The Tavern, The Garden Patio, and The Cave, are waved for corporate events from Monday to Thursday.

A group could start out with breakfast in The Tavern then head to The Barn for a large meeting or conference followed by breakout team training sessions in The Hillside House. To end the day, the events team can help you plan anything from a casual lobsterbake to an elegant multicourse soirée.

“Cohasset is less than 15 miles south of the city, but you feel like you're so much farther away.”

“The Red Lion Inn is a great place for corporate outings,” Tony says. “Cohasset is less than 15 miles south of the city, but you feel like you’re so much farther away.” Indeed, with the same charm and resources as Cape Cod or Newport, Rhode Island, but without the crush of tourists, there are rarely lines at the charming local shops and bakeries, the pace is slow, and parking is free – and a breeze even in the height of summer.

“It’s a true escape, because we don’t have that congestion,” Tony says, noting that management took advantage of pandemic-enforced downtime to improve every aspect of the property, from new paint on the walls to a new chef in the restaurant, while preserving the historic charm that envelopes guests from the minute they arrive. “We’ve elevated the entire experience,” he adds.

“It’s an elevated experience from the moment you walk in the door – you can feel how much we care.”

Weekdays are a prime chance to take advantage of special opportunities or overnight, multi-day private corporate retreats. In addition to welcoming meeting spaces, The Red Lion Inn offers 15 charming historic suites, each with a fireplace and its own unique personality. Some rooms have a seating area, some have jetted tubs and some have balconies – and all were recently refreshed.

Of course, Red Lion guests get access to local beaches, and the inn’s expert staff can arrange a variety of safe and engaging events, on-site or off. “Honestly, we can do just about anything,” Tony says. “It’s an elevated experience from the moment you walk in the door – you can feel how much we care.”
